Establishment of a reliable vascular access is a crucial step in patient care. If vascular access is accomplished within the first few minutes of resuscitation, infusion of medications and fluids is possible and a successful resuscitation is more likely. This course is designed to present the knowledge and skills required to initiate intravenous therapy in the pre-hospital setting. The candidates cover human physiology, intravenous therapy equipment and procedures, primary paramedic protocols, and hands-on practice in starting intravenous therapy.
Training for use of IV’s and medication administration. Candidates have access to plastic IV arms for practicing. Candidates will access online training prior to classroom session and are required to complete a clinical and preceptorship with 15 IV starts prior to receiving a successful course certificate.
License to administer medications.
