First Responder (FR)

First Responder is a comprehensive course designed for community fire fighters and those individuals most likely to be the first rescuers on the scene of an emergency. The program reflects the latest techniques in first aid and CPR. First Responder provides professional rescuers in British Columbia with the information and skills they need to respond to medical emergencies with confidence. Once completed there is an option to further your first aid knowledge and training through the FR - EMR Bridging course.

Firefighters, police, emergency services.

Content
Role of the First Responder, Anatomy and Physiology, Rescue Scene Assessment, Primary Survey, conscious/unconscious choking, artificial respiration, cardiovascular emergencies, AED, deadly bleeding, shock, burns, minor wound care, medical/behavioral emergencies, patient packaging, spinal packaging, first aid kits, enclosed spaces, infectious diseases, bone & joint injuries, chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries, poisons, environmental emergencies, maternity and multi-casualty incidents.

Minimum age: 16 years old

Schedule
This course is offered over two weekends and includes license examinations.
